A Who Seh?

“Those who have witnessed Shaka and Coxsone

in club conference will know that in following Shaka’s distorted swirling dubonics and sheer physical weight, Coxsone would operate one piece of amp less and maintain a sharpness and clarity, a kind of “round-beat” and initially let the music do the work, before Poppa Festus – the Coxsone HiFi controller put on the pressure, injecting tension into the rhythm and building the climax into the dub cuts”

NME 1981

Aspects of tradition that appear in their crude form often are left to decay under speculation.

INFLUENCE of the KUMINA

An Enigma?

One thing is for sure the Kumina requires mental concentration and cooperation with joyful revelation as the deemed outcome.  A pre-requisite to a productive life.

The aim to elevate beyond the crude by merging its qualities with the modern-day brings us to deconstruct the elements and highlight the value of it still used in Jamaican music today.

Festus shares his experience growing up in such a mystery
